We’re used to seeing leading Hollywood star Cate Blanchett stun in a variety of glamorous looks on the red carpet. But last week the Australian beauty, 47, cut a more relaxed and casual figure as she enjoyed some downtime with her family in Melbourne. The Lord Of The Rings showcased her trim physique in a black bikini as she took her clan to Portsea Springs and doted upon adorable adopted daughter Edith, 18 months. Scroll down for video

Cate could be seen keeping a watchful eye on Edith who was splashing about in the shallow water, with Cate sitting down with her on the sand.

The personality laughed and beamed as Edith moved about, with the pair being surrounded by her sons Dashiell, 14, Roman, 12, and Ignatius, eight.

On the day, she was also joined by her acclaimed playwright husband Andrew Upton, 50, and her mother, June.

Cate and her boys enjoyed a light conversation as they relaxed in the water and at one point Cate could be seen fixing Edith’s hair and pulling it back off her face.

Edith seemed to be loving the water and didn’t seem scared.

Before they hopped in the water, the clan could be seen wearing white robes as they walked about the pool.

They were also spotted leaving the pools with Cate wearing an all-denim outfit.

In March last year Cate and Andrew adopted Edith, with Cate telling Good Morning America how excited they all were to have a new addition to their family.

‘We have been blessed, we have been really blessed,’ Cate said.

‘So I have three boys and a girl she’s great.

‘It is a wonderful thing when you see your children becoming a pack, sort of independent of you and I am very proud of my sons.’
