The AA list: How small-breasted actresses are hitting the big time

Today’s hottest actresses have two small things in common — their boobs.

But it hasn’t stopped them flaunting their flat chests in sex scenes on screen or in low-cut dresses on the red carpet.

The AA-cup list includes Swede Alicia Vikander, currently stripping off in The Danish Girl, while Lily James and Tuppence Middleton are keeping the British end up in BBC1’s sexed-up adaptation of War And Peace.

Lily proved a hit as the title role in Kenneth Branagh’s big-screen version of Cinderella last year and as Downton’s Lady Rose, and showed off her petite figure in a sexy bath scene in the Beeb’s new production on Sunday.

The trio’s boyish figures, and those of top stars Dakota Johnson, Carey Mulligan, Rooney Mara and Kristen Stewart, are in stark contrast to the curvy silhouettes of the past.

Marilyn Monroe has long been considered the ultimate screen siren, with top actresses Brigitte Bardot, Elizabeth Taylor and Raquel Welch all united by their ample bosoms.

In more recent years, Scarlett Johansson, Megan Fox, Halle Berry and Penelope Cruz have been the most popular pin-ups.

But the tide is turning.

Demand for boob jobs fell by a quarter in Britain last year.

Victoria Beckham and models Danielle Lloyd and Kimberly Stewart are among the celebrity patients who have opted to have their fake boobs reduced in favour of a more natural look.

Even Katie Price, who once had Britain’s most famous fake breasts, had hers taken down from a 34FF to a 32C last year in a bid to be “taken more seriously”.

Consultant plastic surgeon Dr Rajiv Grover said: “The natural, less-is-more look is definitely on the rise as patients opt to be ‘tweaked’ rather than ‘tucked’.”

While Britain’s average bra size is 36DD, the belief that men prefer women with bigger boobs appears to be a myth, with research showing there is no clear preference.

Luckily for our small-breasted actresses, the movie business has caught on.

Here, we pick out some of Hollywood’s biggest small stars — the breast in the business.

Lily James

Lily’s tiny waist caused controversy as Cinderella last year, but it is the talented Brit’s 32B boobs that have helped cement her place as a modern beauty.

Daisy Ridley

Like Keira Knightley, Star Wars’ leading lady Daisy has made a virtue of her boyish figure and 34A boobs, which she happily showcases on the red carpet.

Alicia Vikander

She was a hit last year in Ex Machina and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and is in line for an Oscar as Gerda in The Danish Girl, in which she exposes her 34A boobs.

Tuppence Middleton

After she stripped off in the first episode of War And Peace, 32B Tuppence’s racy scenes as the alluring Helene Kuragin proved that you don’t need to be busty to be sexy.

Carey Mullingan

Suffragette star Carey is one of Britain’s hottest actresses. She showed off her 34B chest in 2011 film Shame, despite admitting to being “very prudish”.

Kristen Stewart

Keen to shed her teen-friendly Twilight image, 32B Kristen went topless in 2012 indie film On The Road. The famous tomboy likes low-cut styles that flaunt her trim physique.

Lupita Nyong’o

One of the most talented actresses to emerge in recent years, 12 Years A Slave’s Lupita is comfortable in plunging necklines that show her 34A cleavage.

Rooney Mara

Doll-like Rooney is happy to strip on screen and did exactly that alongside Daniel Craig in 2011’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, revealing her petite frame and 32A boobs.

Dakota Johnson

If svelte Dakota was looking for a chance to flaunt her 32B boobs on screen, she certainly took it after landing the role of Anastasia Steele in last year’s Fifty Shades film.

‘I couldn’t stand my big chest’

HAVING a breast reduction in 2009 was a huge weight off my shoulders,writes Ulrika Jonsson.

In my late teens I was accosted overnight by two rather huge breasts. And I couldn’t stand them.

But while I was having mine reduced from an I-cup to a C, every other woman was having hers enlarged.

I had a strong feeling back then that many women would live to regret their augmentations.

It would hamper running, they wouldn’t see their feet and they’d have to endure deep marks on their shoulders from their bra straps.

I was baffled why any woman would choose that.

And the DD list.
